Like the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum, is currently preparing to declare his ambition to contest for governor of his home state, Bayelsa, in 2027, under the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, unlike Adelabu, who has made his ambitions public knowledge, Lokpobiri is still keeping his plans under wraps.
According to a reliable source close to him, he is currently assembling a team of loyalists and media influencers who will unveil his candidacy to the public when the time is right.
These social media influencers, as the source mentioned, are spread across Bayelsa, Delta, and Abuja, waiting for the signal to launch their media campaign against anyone who dares to contest the APC ticket alongside him.
“He has gathered a team of social media ‘tigers’ that will do the job, and they are eager to start,” our source in Yenogoa said. “They are just waiting for the orders to begin their outreach and propaganda efforts on his behalf.”
If he eventually throws his hat into the ring for the 2027 governorship race in Bayelsa State, it will mark the second time Lokpobiri, who is serving his second term as minister, seeks to become governor of the small but oil-rich state. He previously ran for this position in 2019.
Notably, Lokpobiri was once a member of the People’s Democratic Party.
