Amid rising temperature and heatwave across the country, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a public advisory to Nigerians to help them stay healthy.
According to the advisory posted on its social media pages, the NOA said it is aimed at keeping Nigerins safe from heat related illnesses.
“By taking these precautions and working together to combat climate change, we can protect our health and ensure a safer future,” it said.
The advisory urged Nigerians to stay hydrated, drink water regularly and limit the consumption of alcohol and caffeinated drinks .
The agency also advised Nigerians to limit exposure to direct sunlight
“Avoid outdoor activities between 1 to 4pm. Wear light colored, loose-fit clothing, use hats, sunglasses or umbrella when outside.
“Keep cool indoors. Ensure good ventilation in your home and offices. Use fans, cool showers and air conditioning if available,” it said .
Nigerians were also advised to prevent fire hazard by avoiding bush burning and disposing off cigarettes butt and other flammable material properly.
It admonished Nigerians never leave children or pet inside a parked vehicle and “ensure children and elderly stay cool and hydrated.”
The NOA also urged Nigerians to eat light and nutrition meal.
“Eat healthy and balanced meals to avoid deficiencies that may weaken your body from fighting off heat related illnesses.
” Recognize signs of heat related illnesses. Symptoms like dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating , confusion or fainting could indicate heat exhaustion or heatstroke
“If you notice any of these symptoms in yourself or loved ones, seek medical attention immediately,” it said.
