Nigerian veteran comedian Ali Baba has sparked debate with his remarks on polygamy and its role in marriage.

In a recent interview posted on X on Monday, Ali Baba suggested that having multiple wives can help in managing households and maintaining discipline.

“Some people believe that if you have only one wife, you may not be able to control her. But if the wife knows you have more than one, she’ll calm down because she knows that if she misbehaves, another person will take her place,” he explained.

He added that women tend to show more respect when their husband has additional wives. The comedian also pointed out that, traditionally, polygamy was often promoted by women themselves as a way to prevent men from taking concubines.

Ali Baba concluded by stating that he supports polygamy because he sees it as a practical system grounded in tradition.
