The Federal Government on Monday began negotiations with the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the management of Dangote Refinery to resolve the union’s ongoing strike, which has disrupted fuel distribution nationwide.

The meeting, convened by Labour and Employment Minister Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, was held at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Although scheduled for 10 a.m., it commenced late after NUPENG delegates arrived at 5:05 p.m.

Also present were officials of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), MRS Holdings Limited, and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Dingyadi stressed government’s determination to restore stability in the oil sector, describing it as vital to Nigeria’s economy.

He urged all parties to embrace compromise, warning that prolonged disputes could have dire consequences.

The meeting later went into a closed-door session, with outcomes expected to be announced afterward.
