Hamzat Urges Public Servants To Embrace Innovation For Better Service Delivery

Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos State Deputy Governor has urged Public Servants in the State to be innovative and always be at their best as they discharge their duties towards enhancing service delivery.

He gave the charge while speaking at the Annual Staff Retreat of the Office of the Deputy Governor, with the theme “The Role of Employee in the Turnaround Process of the 21st Century Public Services” in Lekki.

The Deputy Governor said that if every officer of the state public service irrespective of their status performs their duties effectively and efficiently, the state and country will prosper.

According to him, “It’s important that in whatever role we find ourselves, we must do our best. If everybody can take care of their roles, and do their responsibilities well this country will fly. As a people, we need to treat people well. So, I think we just need to understand that whatever action we take, karma is real.”

He noted that fulfilling their roles as staff and Nigerians and treating each other with kindness and respect is essential for fostering better development and growth in the nation.

Hamzat added that when mutual respect is prioritized, the nation creates a foundation for positive relationships, harmony, and a culture of empathy and understanding.

Speaking further, he highlighted how rapidly science is changing the world, with the invention of Artificial Intelligence, (AI), and Artificial Neural Intelligence (ANI) among other technological advancements, emphasizing that it is important for Nigerians to understand how the future will be for the sake of the coming generation. 

Mobolaji Daba, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor earlier in her welcome address, thanked the Deputy Governor for graciously approving funds to organize the retreat.

She noted that the retreat provided a platform for members of staff of the office to discuss, share experiences, and learn new techniques on how to further enhance their performance to deliver service delivery

“We need to provide feedback and insight to the government. Be more efficient, effective and communicate well. I can tell you, Sir, that we are more aware than when we came for the lecture.”

The Permanent Secretary added that the event also allowed staff to discuss issues and matters affecting their wellbeing.

In his lecture, with the theme “The Role of Employee in the Turnaround Process of the 21st Century Public Services”, Kehinde Yusuf, the Guest Lecturer who is the Director, Career Management, Lagos State, Civil Service Commission, noted that the public service has undergone significant transformation, shifting from an analog era to a digital age.

He added that public service has undergone a remarkable evolution, transitioning from a traditional analog era to a modern digital age, characterized by increased efficiency, innovation, and effective service delivery.

He therefore urged participants to scale up their skills and be more professional in line with the 21st century public service standard.
