Armed assailants raided a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch in Odo-Ijesa, Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday evening, killing three worshippers and abducting the pastor along with several members.
The attack occurred during a mid-week service at the church located along the Eruku–Egbe federal highway.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen, numbering over a dozen stormed the premises, fired indiscriminately to disperse the congregation, and shot three persons dead on the spot.
A five-minute livestream video from the service, which has since gone viral, captured the moment gunshots rang out and worshippers scrambled in panic as the attackers entered the building.
Survivors told journalists that the gunmen herded the pastor and an unspecified number of worshippers into the surrounding bush.
The exact number of those abducted remains unclear, with estimates ranging from seven to over twenty.
The raid was part of a broader assault on Eruku town that same evening, during which two additional residents were reportedly killed in separate locations.
Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adetoun, confirmed that police operatives had been deployed to the area but said details were still being gathered as of Wednesday morning.
Community leaders in Eruku have appealed for urgent military presence, describing the town as increasingly vulnerable due to its proximity to porous borders with Kogi and Ekiti states.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and no ransom demand has been received as at the time of this report. Search and rescue efforts by security agencies and local vigilantes are ongoing.
