Gunmen Kill APC Chairmanship Aspirant In Lagos

1 day ago 18

Unidentified armed men have fatally attacked Oluwatosin Onamade, a chairmanship hopeful for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday night in Ijede, Ikorodu, where Onamade, an aspirant for the Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), was ambushed and brutally murdered near his residence.

According to his brother, “It happened around 9 pm on Saturday. There were two gunmen. They were wearing black outfits and no one could recognise them.

“His aide said he could not wait when he heard gunshots. They shot at him and macheted him in front of his house. It happened at his house in Ijede, Oluwatosin Onamade Street. The street is named after him.

“They shot him. When the bullets did not penetrate in time, they used machetes on his head and face,” he said.

“My brother was targeted because of his strong chances in the upcoming election,” Femi alleged.

Recalling that a similar assassination attempt had been made on Onamade in 2021. Some suspects from that previous attack remain in custody, but a final verdict is yet to be reached.

“An attack had been made in 2021 and some of the culprits are still in prison but judgment has not been made yet,” he said.

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stating that an investigation is underway to uncover those responsible for the killing.
