Suspected bandits on Monday reportedly kidnapped several passengers travelling along the Wawal Kaza–Dayi highway in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, despite ongoing peace initiatives in the region.
The incident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. on September 16, was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
According to reports, the armed men ambushed a Sharon vehicle transporting commuters from Zaria to Dutsin-Ma, blocking the road before forcing multiple passengers into the surrounding bush.

Among those abducted were two 300-level students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma. They were identified as Onwe Esther Chiamaka and Noah Patience, both of the Department of Sociology.
Another victim, a male student named Goza Darios Doorchuji from the Library Science Department, was also taken but later rescued by security personnel.
Makama confirmed that security operatives responded swiftly to the distress call and moved to the scene.
“They cordoned off the area and rescued Doorchuji unharmed. Efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe release of the two female students and to apprehend the perpetrators,” he said.
The development has raised fresh concerns over insecurity in Katsina State, which continues to face recurrent cases of abduction despite government peace efforts.
