Gunmen Abduct Four In Fresh Attack On Kwara Community

Barely 24 hours after gunmen stormed a church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, killing two worshippers and abducting several others, suspected bandits have struck again in Kwara State.

This time, four rice farmers were seized in broad daylight from their farmland in Bokungi village, Edu Local Government Area, on Wednesday evening.

The abduction took place during the peak of the harvest season, when farmers were busy gathering their rice were most exposed.

A community source told journalists: “It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate. Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging”.

Eyewitnesses said the heavily armed attackers appeared suddenly, surrounded the farmers, and operated unchallenged for several minutes.

They forced the victims into the surrounding bush and fled toward an unknown destination.Residents lamented that rampant insecurity in Edu LGA has turned once-bustling farming communities into ghost settlements.

Many farmers now abandon their fields during harvest for fear of being attacked or kidnapped at their most vulnerable moment.

As of the time of this report, neither the Kwara State Police Command nor the state government had released an official statement on the latest incident.
