Hilda Baci has been officially certified by Guinness World
Records (GWR) for achieving the record for the largest serving of
Nigerian-style jollof rice.
In a post via X on Monday, GWR announced that the Nigerian
celebrity chef set the record by cooking rice that weighed 8,780 kg.
The record was set by Baci and her team at Gino in Victoria
Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice –
8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island,
Lagos, Nigeria,” the post reads.
In a blog post, GWR revealed that Baci fulfilled one of the
conditions of the attempt: avoiding food waste by serving more than 16,000
plates of the jollof rice to attendees.
“Hilda and Gino Nigeria also had to follow strict rules when
it came to the distribution of the food, with none of it allowed to be wasted,”
the post reads in part.
On her part, the celebrity chef said achieving the record
was difficult but satisfying. She added that the feat is a shared victory for
all Nigerians.
“I didn’t realize it would be this hard and it has been a
challenge. It’s a lot of hard work, but really satisfying to achieve the
record,” she said.
“This achievement also belongs to the people of Nigeria as
they all contributed to the achievement.”
In an Instagram post, Baci also revealed that the feat took
her “nine hours of fire, passion and teamwork” and 1,200 kg of gas to prepare
16,600 plates of rice.
The chef embarked on the attempt on Friday at Eko Hotels and
Suites, drawing support from celebrities, dignitaries, and royals.
Among those present were Spyro, Funke Akindele, Enioluwa,
Peller, dancer Kaffy, and media personality Tomike Adeoye.
They were joined by Ogun state first lady Bamidele Abiodun,
Oba Oniru’s wife Folagade ‘Mama Deola’ Banks, and reality star Alex Unusual.
