Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, says he expects Arsenal and Liverpool to stay firmly in the Premier League title race, though he believes both sides will eventually stumble.
Speaking after City’s 3-2 loss to Brentford on Saturday, Guardiola admitted his team must stay alert for any slip-ups from their rivals.
“I have that feeling with Arsenal, with Liverpool as well,” Guardiola said. “I always had the feeling that both teams and maybe another one, they will lose a few points. That’s why we have to be there.”
Arsenal currently top the table, three points clear ahead of Sunday’s home clash with Crystal Palace. Mikel Arteta’s side have been ruthless in recent weeks, winning six matches in a row and conceding just one goal.
Liverpool, meanwhile, fell to sixth after the weekend’s results but are still within touching distance.
In League One, Reading have confirmed the sacking of manager Noel Hunt after a disappointing start to the season. The Royals sit 19th, with just three wins from 14 games, and are two points above the relegation zone following a 1-1 draw with Doncaster Rovers.
Hunt, 42, was appointed in December 2024 after previously serving as caretaker manager following Paul Ince’s dismissal. He made 145 league appearances for the club as a player during a five-year spell.
Club chairman Rob Couhig described parting ways with Hunt as a “difficult” decision but said “results have not reached the level required.”
In a message on the club’s website, he praised Hunt’s dedication: “Noel Hunt is far more than just a former manager of this football club, he is part of the fabric of Reading FC. He fought for this badge and gave everything for the club.”
Reading are now searching for a new manager to steady the team’s campaign.
