A Kaduna-based human rights group, K-23 Movement, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute former governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai over alleged corruption.
The group, at a press conference at Arewa House, Kaduna, said the recent allegations of financial mismanagement against El-Rufai by the Kaduna state House of Assembly should not be ignored.
Chairman of the group, Comrade Bashir Bello, said: “El-Rufai’s administration was fraught with corruption and executive impunity. We are surprised that instead of answering for these allegations, he is attacking the current government and respected figures like the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu.”
He accused the former governor of allegedly withholding details of funds received during his tenure, including grants and loans running into trillions of naira.
The group also alleged that El-Rufai’s tenure was marked by political repression, citing the detention of journalists, traditional rulers, and opposition figures.
Bello listed cases, including journalist Luka Binniyat, who spent 185 days in jail, and university lecturer, Dr. John Danfulani, who was detained for 22 days before losing his job. He also mentioned the case of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, who was abducted from his home five years ago and has not been seen since.
