Group Urges Abiodun To Intervene In AMORAN Leadership Crisis In Ogun

1 week ago 6

IBADAN: The concerned youths in Ogun State under the aegis of Ogun Youth Arise (OYA) has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to wade in the crisis rocking the leadership of Articulated Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) to avert looming danger in the state.

The coalition of concerned youth organizations, community leaders, and progressive minds across the state on Saturday during a Press Conference held in Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo State compelled the Governor to intervene before it is too late in order to further ensure stability, safety of lives and properties of residents of Ogun State.

While voicing their deep concerns over the unfolding crisis within the leadership of the Articulated Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), particularly under the current executive led by Hon. Taofeek Danku, the National Coordinator of the group, Ambassador Abdulraman Demola noted that it is high time Governor Dapo Abiodun take a decisive action over the lingering leadership tusse in AMORAN under the present leadership of Hon. Taofeek Danku.

Ambassador Abdulraman Demola further noted that AMORAN under the current leadership poses a clear and present danger to the peace and stability of Ogun State.

Abdulraman said, “It is no longer news that the state has, in recent times, witnessed pockets of unrest fueled by dissatisfaction within the transport sector, particularly among commercial riders who now feel disconnected from the leadership that ought to be their voice. The once-structured association, which played a critical role in stabilizing the transport sector under previous leadership, is now embroiled in avoidable chaos, causing tension in different parts of Ogun State.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has worked tirelessly to ensure Ogun State remains a haven of peace, security, and development. However, recent developments within AMORAN pose a severe threat to this stability. Multiple reports from across the state indicate that the leadership style of Hon. Taofeek Danku has been characterized by high-handedness, favoritism, and a blatant disregard for the interests of members.

“Instead of ensuring that AMORAN functions as a well-coordinated union advocating for the welfare of riders, his leadership has deepened internal conflicts, leading to physical altercations among members, violent clashes, and a total breakdown of order in several locations. If not addressed urgently, these crises could escalate into a full-blown breakdown of peace across the state, affecting not just transport workers but the broader Ogun populace.

“Beyond the governance crisis within AMORAN, there have also been disturbing reports regarding the personal conduct of Hon. Taofeek Danku, which further discredits his suitability as a leader. Several reports allege his involvement in inappropriate sexual activities, particularly in public settings such as clubs, which have drawn severe public condemnation. Leadership is not just about administrative efficiency; it is also about moral standing and the ability to command respect from the people being led.

“A leader of an association as critical as AMORAN, which represents thousands of commercial riders across Ogun State, must be a model of integrity, discipline, and good conduct. Unfortunately, the actions of Hon. Taofeek Danku not only bring disgrace to the organization but also cast a negative shadow on the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, who has always prioritized character, competence, and accountability in governance.

“We, the Ogun Youth Arise, believe that the time for decisive action is now. The continued leadership of Hon. Taofeek Danku in AMORAN poses a clear and present danger to the peace and stability of Ogun State. His numerous scandals, coupled with stressed dissatisfaction among AMORAN members, could ignite scandals, unrest if not addressed swiftly.

“We, therefore demand for immediate intervention by the state government to restructure and rehabilitate the AMORAN executive leadership to ensure that individuals the helm of affairs. A thorough investigation into the allegations including reports of leadership abuses, financial mismanagement, and personal scandals that is of misconduct against Hon. Taofeek Danku, are embarrassing to the transport sector and Ogun State at large.

“A clear blueprint for sanitizing AMORAN to ensure that it remains an organization focused on protecting the welfare of its members and not a breeding ground for conflicts and scandals.

“Engagement with critical stakeholders, including the security agencies, transport workers’ unions, and youth organizations, to prevent any possible outbreak of violence due to the current dissatisfaction within AMORAN.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun has demonstrated time and again that he is a leader committed to good governance, security, and the welfare of the people. We trust in his ability to act decisively to avert any crisis that could arise from the current leadership failure within AMORAN. The transport sector is too critical to the economic and social stability of Ogun State to be left in the hands of individuals who lack the moral and administrative capacity to lead effectively.

“The Ogun Youth Arise, alongside other progressive youth bodies, will continue to monitor the situation and engage all necessary stakeholders to ensure that peace and order prevail in Ogun State. We strongly urge Governor Dapo Abiodun to heed this call and take the necessary actions before things spiral out of control.

“Ogun State must not be allowed to descend into avoidable chaos. Leadership must be accountable, and the welfare of the people must always come first.” Abdulraman said.
