A youth corps member has warmed hearts online after surprising her grandmother, who raised her, with a salute at her shop upon completing her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
In a touching video shared by the corps member, identified as @harriettreat on TikTok, she was seen standing in front of her grandmother’s shop in her NYSC uniform before saluting.
The moment quickly turned emotional as the grandmother rushed to embrace her granddaughter, shedding tears of joy while praying for her.
Tribute to a grandmother’s sacrifice
Alongside the video, the corps member explained that her grandmother had been her rock since childhood, taking over parental responsibilities when her own parents were absent. She described her grandmother as her “superhero” and the “pillar” of her life.
Her caption read: “Kindly help me say thank you to my grand mum.”
She went on to reflect on the countless sacrifices her grandmother made, from supporting her through primary and secondary school to higher education, and now celebrating her NYSC completion.
In a longer post, she wrote:
“Right from primary and secondary school to higher institution, and till this moment, this woman has been shouldering my responsibilities. The reason why I’m more grateful to God is that she is still right here, seeing a seed she planted, watered, and cared for grow.
“Honestly speaking, it’s a privilege. In as much as NYSC looks normal, at some point I felt like going back home, but I really want to see that happiness on her face when I finally get home . These few clips make my service in camp worth it.” “Thank you for all you do, my super hero.”
