Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has flagged off the Kaduna State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (KADSEMSAS), hailing it as a pivotal step in his administration’s drive to save lives and guarantee emergency healthcare for all residents.
At the launch event on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Sani emphasized that the initiative transcends mere ambulance deployment, aiming to ensure no Kaduna citizen faces barriers to timely medical aid due to distance or delays.
“Our vision is simple but profound: no citizen of Kaduna State should be denied timely medical intervention because of distance, delay, or lack of access,” he stated.
KADSEMSAS includes a fleet of equipped ambulances, a central dispatch center, and trained emergency technicians to stabilize patients during transport to hospitals, covering all 23 local government areas for both urban and rural populations.
The system addresses critical situations such as maternal emergencies, road accidents, and cardiac issues, where “minutes can mean the difference between life and death.”
The governor linked the program to his “people-first philosophy” and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals, highlighting complementary reforms like revitalizing primary health centers, prioritizing maternal and child health, and implementing new salary structures for health workers under CONMESS and CONHESS.
He assured inclusivity, stating it serves everyone from farmers in Ikara to children in Kagarko, with no one left behind.
Health Commissioner Umma K. Ahmed described KADSEMSAS as “a giant leap forward,” integrating the Rural Emergency Medical and Maternal Transport Services (RESMAT) to reach remote areas. Free treatment for the first 48 hours will be provided to pregnant women, children, and accident victims.
