Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of elder statesman and Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) leader, Chief Edwin Clark, who died on Tuesday at the age of 97.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo described Chief Clark as an extraordinary patriot who served Nigeria with unwavering dedication. As a former Federal Commissioner for Information and a prominent advocate for the Niger Delta, Chief Clark’s voice resonated beyond regional concerns, championing national unity based on justice and equity.
His voice resonated not just for the Niger Delta, but for all of Nigeria. As a lawyer, educationist, and elder statesman, Chief Clark’s interventions on national issues were marked by wisdom, foresight, and a dogged commitment to national unity founded on the principles of justice and equity.
Governor Soludo acknowledged that Chief Clark’s passing signifies the end of an era but emphasised that his legacy of fighting for a just and united Nigeria will endure.
The governor also mourned the recent loss of Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who passed away at 96. He hailed Pa Adebanjo as a relentless advocate for true federalism and national unity, stating that his absence would be deeply felt across the country.
Governor Soludo extended his condolences to the families of Chief Clark and Pa Adebanjo, as well as the people of the Niger Delta and Yoruba land. He also commiserated with PANDEF and Afenifere, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.
