1 week ago 4

Yobe State Governor and Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, Mai Mala Buni, today held fruitful discussions with the United Nations and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall, on measures to strengthen development partnerships with the state government.

The Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed, stated that the meeting centered on shared commitments to transition from the humanitarian response stage to a long-term recovery, resilience, and development stage.

It also focused on the implementation of the State Action Plan (SAP) on Durable Solutions to Internal Displacements.

According to the statement, the governor highlighted the success of the partnership so far in supporting humanitarian response, education, healthcare, livelihoods, governance, peace-building initiatives, and climate resilience in the state.

“Yobe State has institutionalized this through a comprehensive State Action Plan, a dedicated IDP policy, and a robust State Advisory Committee on Durable Solutions.

“The state government has, in the last three years, committed 5% of its annual budget to the durable solutions plan,” Buni said.

The governor added that the government adopted a people-centered and inclusive approach, giving displaced persons and host communities a true sense of belonging in decision-making and implementation processes.

In 2025, the durable solutions initiative received an increased allocation of 24.9% to reflect the state’s commitment to meeting the UN action agenda on durable solutions.

The United Nations and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall, congratulated Governor Buni on the successful hosting of the 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum (LCBGF), noting that this achievement is a testament to the state’s leadership and organizational capabilities in implementing the State Action Plan on Solutions to Internal Displacements.

“While Yobe State has already recorded commendable success in piloting durable solutions, it is now time to consolidate these gains and move towards full-scale implementation,” Mr. Fall said.

The UN Resident Coordinator assured Governor Buni of the UN’s readiness to mobilize additional technical and financial resources to support these endeavors, with a continued commitment to collaborative actions.
