Niger State Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago has commissioned a state-of-the-art office complex for the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in Minna, expressing confidence that it will bring critical certification and quality assurance services closer to farmers, traders, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers.
Speaking at the event, Governor Bago, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, described the facility as a symbol of national progress and a key driver of industrial development under the New Niger Agenda focused on innovation, productivity, and accountability.
“This is more than a building; it represents SON’s unwavering commitment to upholding standards and ensuring Nigerian products compete globally,” Bago said.
He emphasized that the office will support the state’s push into agro-processing, renewable energy, and small-scale manufacturing by enhancing consumer safety and investor confidence.
The governor noted that proximity to SON services will foster stronger collaboration between the agency and the state government, ultimately benefiting local stakeholders.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, represented by a ministry official, commended the development as a strategic milestone in expanding access to trade and industry support services across Niger and neighboring states.
The Governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, praised SON for the achievement, calling the complex a “testimony to collaboration between federal and state institutions” and a step toward building systems that serve the people.
SON Director-General, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, highlighted the office’s role in accelerating standardization, protecting consumers, and enabling international trade.
He said the Minna facility will significantly improve operational efficiency and service delivery in the North-Central region.
The well-attended ceremony included senior government officials, federal ministry representatives, private sector leaders, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries.
The new SON Niger State Office Complex is poised to serve as a regional hub for quality assurance, certification, and standardization, strengthening Nigeria’s competitiveness in global markets.
