Governor Alia congratulates new Benue Assembly Speaker

Governor Hyacinth Alia has congratulated the member representing Makurdi North State Constituency, Alfred Emberga, on his election as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.

Mr Emberga was elected on Sunday during an emergency sitting of the House following the resignation of the former speaker, Aondona Dajoh.

Mr Dajoh had earlier announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Clerk of the Assembly, which he also posted on his official Facebook page with the caption: “Let there be peace.”

In a press statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia commended the swift and peaceful process that produced a new speaker, describing it as “a testament to the confidence reposed in Hon. Emberga by his colleagues and a reflection of his ability to uphold democratic values.”

The governor expressed confidence that under Mr Emberga’s leadership, the Assembly would continue to enact laws and policies that would improve the lives of the people of Benue.

He urged the legislature to sustain a cordial working relationship with the executive and judiciary arms of government, stressing that “only through collaboration can the state achieve sustainable development and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen.”

While appreciating the contributions of the former speaker, Mr Dajoh, Governor Alia assured the new speaker and all members of the Assembly of his “unwavering support and commitment to the overall good of the state.”
