Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has appointed 23 coordinators, including former House of Representatives member Francis Agbo, to oversee affairs in the state’s 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The announcement was made on Sunday, during an expanded caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Makurdi.

The initiative aims to promote grassroots democracy and enhance citizen participation in governance.
According to Governor Alia, the newly appointed coordinators will reinforce the APC’s presence at the local level and serve as effective representatives of both the party and the state government.
“I urge you to act as worthy representatives of the party and my administration by intensifying efforts to attract new members and strengthen party unity across the state,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of accountability and service delivery: “Any act of misappropriation or negligence will be met with strict accountability measures.
“You must remain connected to the grassroots and ensure government projects serve their purpose.”
Alia further highlighted the need for effective collaboration: “Work closely with local stakeholders and community leaders.
“Your role is crucial in ensuring that government initiatives reach the people who need them most.”
He also gave clear instructions regarding youth empowerment and job creation: “Identify 200 artisans for local job placements and 800 young people who wish to acquire vocational skills abroad.
“Ensure they meet the necessary requirements, including obtaining a fitness certificate from the Father Adasu University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.”
On political disputes, he added, “Minor conflicts within your areas should be resolved locally. Only unresolved or critical issues should be escalated to my office.”
Alia concluded by commending APC members for their loyalty and reiterating the party’s commitment to good governance: “We must remain fair, transparent, and accountable.
“The APC stands for excellence, and we cannot compromise on delivering results for our people.”
