Gov Yusuf Got More Funds In Six Months Than I Did In Eight Years

The immediate past governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has criticized his successor, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, over alleged reckless spending and poor governance.

Ganduje claimed that Yusuf’s administration has received more funds from the Federal Government in just six months than his administration did in eight years, but has failed to translate these resources into visible development.

Speaking on Sunday after a stakeholders’ meeting in Kano, Ganduje argued that the current government’s spending patterns were wasteful and lacked proper planning.

He said his administration managed scarce resources prudently, delivering meaningful infrastructure despite difficult conditions.

In contrast, he described Yusuf’s government as inexperienced, clumsy, and focused on political vendettas rather than continuity and service delivery.

“Governance is about improving lives, not settling scores. What we are seeing now is a government more concerned with investigations than with building roads, schools, and hospitals,” Ganduje said.

Ganduje criticized the probes initiated by Yusuf’s administration, stating they serve as distractions that derail governance.

“When I took over power, I never wasted time probing my predecessor.

“Governance doesn’t end with one administration. The people deserve projects, not witch-hunts,” he added.

He further alleged that some projects under Yusuf were undertaken without feasibility studies, leading to waste and poor execution.

“You cannot expect meaningful results when projects are initiated without proper planning and professional oversight,” he said.

“This government has no grip on governance. It’s like comparing a messenger with a permanent secretary”.

“Their lack of accountability is shocking. Funds are flowing into the state, yet there is no visible transformation.”

Ganduje described the current administration as reckless, lacking accountability, and running a “government of bandits.”

“If this trajectory continues, Kano risks underdevelopment and financial instability. Our people deserve better,” he said.

He stressed that the people deserve to see projects that reflect the unprecedented resources coming into the state and urged the administration to prioritize proper planning, accountability, and meaningful project delivery.

“Good governance is not about politics; it is about service. Continuity, not vendettas, is what will move Kano forward,” Ganduje concluded.
