In a bid to make Ekiti the tourism hub of Nigeria, the Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, has thrown his weight behind the 2nd edition of Ikogosi 17.5k Road Race to be held on November 8 in the historic town of Ikogosi.

Organisers of the Road Race have said that apart from his support for the short distance race, the governor has repositioned Ekiti United and Ekiti Queens football club, while also upgrading key sporting facilities in the state.

“By endorsing the Ikogosi Road Race-organized in partnership with the Ikogosi Marathon Initiative – the governor reaffirms his commitment to positioning Ekiti as a global tourism destination.

“This landmark event is set to draw athletes, tourists, and investors from around the world, stimulating local commerce, hospitality, and small businesses.

“More than 500 youths will receive training as volunteers, while artisans, SMEs, and cultural troupes will seize the spotlight to showcase the rich vibrancy and creativity of Ekiti State,” said a member of the organising committee.

Meanwhile, the race route- from Ilawe’s scenic terrains to the world-famous Ikogosi Warm Spring- will highlight both the state’s natural beauty and its improved infrastructure.

According to the organisers, the Race is a strategic platform backed by Governor Oyebanji to project Ekiti’s readiness for global tourism, adventure sports, and investment opportunities.
