Gordon Ramsay Treated For Skin Cancer, Urges Caution Over Sun Exposure

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed that he recently underwent treatment to remove skin cancer.

The 58-year-old TV star said doctors successfully treated a basal cell carcinoma, a common type of non-melanoma skin cancer. In a post shared on Instagram on Saturday, Ramsay expressed gratitude to his medical team, praising their “fast reactive work.”

“I’m grateful and so appreciative,” he wrote, alongside a photo showing a plaster under his ear following the procedure. Adding a touch of humour, he reassured fans: “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund.”

Support poured in on social media. TV judge Robert Rinder left a heart emoji, while Cancer Research UK wished Ramsay a speedy recovery and thanked him for raising awareness about sun safety. “Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously,” the charity advised.

According to the NHS, basal cell carcinoma is one of the main forms of non-melanoma skin cancer, typically caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun or sunbeds. It often appears as a growth or unusual skin patch on sun-exposed areas such as the face, neck, or hands. While treatable, the NHS warns that prevention through protective measures—like using sunscreen and seeking shade—is key.

Ramsay, known globally for programmes such as Hell’s Kitchen and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares as well as his Michelin-starred restaurants, used his diagnosis as a reminder for fans to take sun protection seriously.
