The Gombe state government in partnership with the World Bank has commissioned over 103 revitalised primary health centres (PHCs) across the state under the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) project.

The project is aimed at expanding access to quality care, reducing maternal and child deaths, and improving services in rural and underserved communities.

Speaking during the commissioning, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, state deputy governor, reaffirmed their administration’s determination to build a stronger healthcare system.

He noted that since assuming office in 2019, Gombe’s health sector has witnessed sweeping reforms, including increased health budgetary allocation from 3.5 to 15 percent, the establishment of the Gombe State Contributory Health Agency with over 300,000 enrollees, and the creation of the State Drug Management Agency to ensure a steady supply of essential medicines.

He added that the newly revitalised PHCs are now fitted with solar power, boreholes, staff quarters, labour rooms, antenatal and immunisation units, pharmacies, VIP toilets, and stocked medical consumables.
