Super Falcons forward, Gift Monday, has been voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week after her remarkable performance for Washington Spirit.
The 23-year-old striker netted a hat-trick in Spirit’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Houston Dash on Sunday night. Her treble, the fastest in NWSL history, sealed the win and set a new milestone in the league.
Monday earned 50.3% of the 881 votes cast to clinch the award. Gotham FC midfielder Rose Lavelle finished second with 35%, while Utah Royals goalkeeper Mia Justus (8.1%) and Kansas City Current forward Bia Zaneratto (6.7%) placed third and fourth respectively.
The Nigerian international has now scored eight goals for Washington Spirit this season, further underlining her growing influence in the American top-flight league.
