Gateway Int’l Airport Becomes First in Nigeria to Secure Aerodrome Operational Permit

The Gateway International Airport in Ogun State has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first airport in Nigeria to receive an Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The certification, granted under the NCAA’s upgraded regulatory framework, marks a historic moment for the nation’s aviation sector.

Adding to this achievement, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) declared the airport’s Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) on Runway 23 “fully satisfactory” following a successful flight inspection on September 4, 2025.

This clearance authorizes the unrestricted use of the system, ensuring safer and more efficient operations.Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, celebrated the dual certifications as a testament to his administration’s commitment to transforming Ogun State into a hub for commerce, investment, and global connectivity.

“This is a landmark achievement not only for Ogun State but for Nigeria. The Gateway International Airport sets a new standard for aviation infrastructure and positions us as a leader in global competitiveness,” Abiodun stated.

The certifications pave the way for the airport to revolutionize Nigeria’s aviation landscape.

The facility is expected to decongest Lagos airports, provide direct international market access for local farmers, create job opportunities for youths, and enhance operational reliability.
