Ganduje urges swift government action against bandits attacks in Kano

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has condemned the recent bandit attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of Kano State, describing the incidents as tragic and deeply distressing.

The coordinated assaults, which claimed the lives of three residents and resulted in the abduction of several women and children, have sparked widespread concern across affected communities.

In a statement issued on his behalf by Muhammed Garba, his former Chief of Staff, on Wednesday, Ganduje expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the traumatised residents of Tsanyawa, Shanono, and Bangwai communities.

He said the attacks represent “a direct assault on communal peace and social stability,” stressing that the emotional and psychological impact demands urgent and coordinated intervention.

Ganduje called on the Kano State Government to move swiftly by adopting proactive and intelligence-driven security strategies. He cautioned that the worsening situation “cannot be ignored or downplayed,” urging authorities to strengthen community-based security measures.

The former governor advised the government to draw from the security frameworks deployed during his administration between 2015 and 2023, which he said included enhanced local vigilance networks, multi-layered community policing, improved intelligence sharing, better coordination with security agencies, and development-focused crime-prevention programmes.

According to him, these initiatives played a key role in reducing rural banditry and curbing urban criminality during his tenure.
He also commended the governments of Niger, Kwara, Kebbi and other states for what he described as effective handling of similar security challenges, noting their timely interventions and strong community engagement.

Ganduje further applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to modernise the armed forces and strengthen national security architecture, saying the President’s ongoing initiatives reflect firm political will to tackle insecurity.

He urged residents of the affected areas to remain calm but vigilant, and to cooperate fully with security personnel by providing timely information that could help forestall further attacks.

Ganduje stressed that tackling insecurity requires shared responsibility among citizens, traditional institutions, government and security agencies. He assured the people of Shanono, Tsanyawa and neighbouring communities that they are not alone in their grief and that leaders at various levels are committed to ensuring their safety.
