Ganduje Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty To APC

Immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has denied reports claiming he is set to dump the ruling party.

There had been speculation that he was planning to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The former Kano State governor described the speculation as fake news, stressing that he remains a loyal member of the APC.

Ganduje resigned as the National Chairman of the party on June 27, 2025, citing health reasons.

His exit came two years after he was elected at an emergency meeting of the APC National Executive Committee in August 2023.

Recent reports had suggested that Ganduje and some of his loyalists were plotting to defect to the ADC following his resignation.

However, his spokesman, Edwin Olofu, dismissed the claims while addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday.

According to Olofu, Ganduje has no intention of abandoning the ruling party or distancing himself from President Bola Tinubu.

“Ganduje is a committed member of the APC who is not just a loyal party man but also loyal to the President and his Renewed Hope Agenda,” Olofu said.

He added: “So, ignore those saying he is planning to leave the APC. It is just fake news.”

Olofu further stressed that Ganduje’s political direction remains clear.

“For the avoidance of doubt, he has not held any talks with the ADC or any other opposition party.

“His focus is on supporting the APC to deliver good governance to Nigerians,” he stated.

The clarification is coming amid ongoing political realignments in the country as opposition parties continue to woo disgruntled members of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ganduje, who served two terms as Kano governor between 2015 and 2023, has been one of President Tinubu’s staunch supporters.

His camp insists that despite stepping down from his national leadership role, he remains firmly aligned with the ruling party’s objectives.

“He is standing solidly with the APC. People should stop spreading rumours,” Olofu concluded.
