Fubara Reaffirms Support For Corps Members, Pledges Better Facilities At Rivers NYSC Camp


Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has renewed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and operational environment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state.

The governor gave the assurance when he received the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, and his team in Government House, Port Harcourt.

Governor Fubara described the visit as a productive engagement that offered both sides the opportunity to assess existing NYSC facilities in the state and discuss areas requiring immediate upgrades, commending the DG and his team for their dedication to supporting young Nigerians undergoing national service.

The governor emphasised that Rivers State remains “warm, peaceful and welcoming” to corps members and visitors.

He assured that his administration is already working to expand key infrastructure at the NYSC camp, including accommodation blocks, training facilities, and essential utilities.

“We will continue upgrading the camp and providing supportive allowances that make service in our state truly rewarding,” Governor Fubara said, adding that the wellbeing and security of corps members remain a top priority.

The governor also highlighted the pride of the state in hosting the NYSC regional office, and also pledging to ensure a fully conducive environment for its efficient operations, noting that the presence of the regional office reinforces Rivers State’s role in strengthening national unity and youth development.

Brig. Gen. Nafiu expressed appreciation for the state government’s support, noting that Rivers has consistently provided an enabling environment for corps members, he also said the NYSC leadership looks forward to continued collaboration with the state to enhance the overall service experience.

The visit ended with both parties reaffirming a shared commitment to youth development and improved service conditions, reflecting the broader national goal of strengthening the NYSC scheme across the country.
