FRSC mourns officer as police recover dismembered body in Osun

The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed that the Nigeria Police Force recovered human remains suspected to be those of its missing staff member, SRC OO Lasisi, in a river near Iwoye Ijesa in Osun State.

The remains, discovered on Monday, were formally reported to the FRSC by the Osun State Police Command on Tuesday.

In a press statement signed by the Corps on Wednesday, it noted that the Osun Sector Commander immediately met with the Commissioner of Police for a full briefing on the investigation.

Police investigators told the Corps that intelligence gathering, surveillance and phone tracking led to the arrest of an herbalist in Iloko Ijesa.

During interrogation, the suspect alleged that Lasisi was lured, killed and dismembered by a man identified as Victor and other accomplices who are still on the run.

Police also said Victor, who was reportedly in a relationship with the deceased, abandoned his vehicle on the Gbongan Ibadan expressway in an attempt to mislead investigators and create the impression of a kidnapping.

The herbalist further claimed that Victor removed the missing child from his house. The child has not yet been found.

The recovered remains have been deposited at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital mortuary for postmortem and DNA analysis.

FRSC said the husband of the deceased, who is based in the United States, has been contacted to support the forensic process.

Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the development as heartbreaking and commended the police for their swift action.

He condoled with the family and prayed for the safe return of the missing child.

Both the FRSC and the Police urged members of the public with useful information to contact the Osun State Anti Kidnapping Unit or the FRSC Osun Sector Command as the investigation continues.
