FRSC loses five officers to reckless drivers in September

A total of five operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were knocked down in the month September by reckless drivers while on official duties.

 

A statement by Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Olusegun Ogungbemide said the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed had directed that all motorists responsible for these tragic incidents be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law to serve as a deterrent against future occurrences.

 

The statement said that these knockdowns happened across the following formations namely Ekiti Sector Command, Ogun Sector Command, Taraba Sector Command, Jos By-Pass Unit Command and Obollo Afor Unit Command with the month.

 

“Their deaths are not mere statistics, they represent human lives dedicated fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners, cut short in the line of duty while safeguarding Nigerian roads” said the statement.

 

“Gravely disturbed, the Corps Marshal noted with great concern the increasing hazards faced by FRSC operatives who, beyond being exposed to speeding vehicles, now also contend with kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults” said the statement .

 

The statement stressed that the FRSC will no longer tolerate acts of recklessness that endanger its staff, warning that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law.

 

The Corps Marshal, in the statement called on personnel across formations nationwide to exercise more level of alertness and ensure their safety is highly prioritised, while noting that they need to be safe and alive to save others.
