Four Suspects Nabbed For Vandalising School Transformer In Kebbi


The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to the vandalisation of a transformer at Government Girls Secondary School, Bunza, in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, as well as Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi from Zamfara State, were apprehended following a swift response by the Divisional Police Officer in Bunza and local vigilante groups.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that the suspects invaded the school premises around 3:00 a.m. on September 10, where they overpowered and tied up the school’s watchman before dismantling the transformer using chainsaws and other mechanical tools.

He explained, “A black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN, believed to have been used by the suspects, was recovered at the scene, along with the vandalised armoured cable wires and tools used in the crime. While two of the suspects were arrested on the spot, further discreet investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, led to the arrest of the fleeing gang members.”

The police spokesman further confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the swift and professional efforts of the Bunza DPO and vigilantes, stressing the significance of police-community collaboration in combating crime.

He reassured residents of Kebbi State of the Command’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements and ensuring a safe environment, while urging the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
