Four Rescued As Three-Storey Building Collapses In Yaba


A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday night, at 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State, leaving several people trapped under the rubble.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in a statement on Saturday, confirmed the incident occurred at about 8:30 pm.

According to the agency, emergency responders have so far rescued four adult males alive and rushed them to the hospital for treatment.

“While eyewitness accounts vary, with some saying six people were trapped and others reporting five, emergency responders have so far rescued four adult males alive.

They were taken to the hospital for treatment,” NEMA stated on Saturday, September 13.

The agency added that its officials, alongside operatives from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other responders, quickly mobilised to the site.

They immediately commenced intensive search and rescue operations.

NEMA further noted that the exact number of people still trapped could not be confirmed as of press time.

“Emergency officials have cordoned off the site to ensure safety and smooth rescue operations.

“The search and rescue operation is continuing into the night, with responders assuring that no effort will be spared to save lives,” the statement read.
