Tragedy struck on Monday in Asaba, Delta State, as four people lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident at the Second Niger Bridge.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday involving a truck loaded with cement and two other vehicles.
Eyewitnesses said the accident was caused by the truck driver, who lost control while attempting to navigate through the bridge.

“We saw a truck carrying cement at high speed trying to navigate the bridge but the driver couldn’t control it and it eventually fell.
The truck crushed two other vehicles and many people died, while others sustained serious injuries,” one eyewitness narrated.
The injured victims were immediately rushed to St. Rebecca’s Hospital along Nnebisi Road for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Delta State, Frederick Ogidan, said the accident was avoidable, stressing that overspeeding was the main cause.
“Four persons have been confirmed dead. The vehicle involved is not Dangote but a BUA truck carrying cement,” Ogidan said.
“It’s unfortunate that a crash will happen on such a good road. It shows the driver was probably overspeeding and lost control.”
He added that some of the victims were trapped in their vehicles before rescue operations began.
Ogidan urged drivers to be more cautious, especially as the Ember months approach, warning that many accidents during this period are linked to recklessness.
He further advised motorists to obey traffic regulations, saying: “Drivers must avoid overspeeding and follow simple road safety rules to prevent needless deaths.”
