The North South Power Foundation (NSPF) has renovated Model Primary and Junior Secondary School, Zumba in Niger.

Prof. George Nwangwu, Chairman, NSPF Board of Trustees said on Monday, while reopening the school, that the school had been in a deplorable state without roof and windows for many years.

Nwangwu said the foundation renovated three blocks of eight classrooms, staff offices, toilet facilities and installed a solar-powered borehole in the school.

Nwangwu, represented by Dr Umar Nagogo, Director in the foundation , said the gesture was part of the foundation’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) to the host community.

“This project is part of our CSR aimed at providing a conducive learning environment for children in Zumba community and environs.

“The project is also to enhance access to quality education and support community development,” he said.

He appealed to the community to maintain the facilities and protect it from vandals.

Prof. Danlami Hakimi, Chairman, Host Community Stakeholders Committee, commended NSPF for its various developmental project executed in the host communities.

“We appreciate NSPF for its several projects, including clinics, solar-powered boreholes, renovation of schools, and electrification of some communities,” he said.

Hakimi, represented by Bawa Emmanuel, a member of the committee, said that the community would maintain and protect the facilities against vandals.

Alhaji Hassan Mohammed, Director of Schools and Educational Services, Niger Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, appreciated NSPF’s efforts and promised that the state government would furnish the classrooms.

Alhaji Garba Abara, Village Head of Zumba, thanked NSPF for the intervention and urged other organisations to come to aid of the community. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
