Forum celebrates Mrs. Shonekan on 84th birthday 


The Oyo Forum, Abuja, has hailed former first lady, Mrs Margaret Shonekan on the occasion of her 84th birthday celebration. 

In a statement made available to Blueprint Thursday in Abuja, and signed by Engr Owolabi M.O and Amb. Tunde Mustapha, Chairman and Head of Media Team respectively, the Forum, described the former first lady as a gentle dove and a benevolent matriarch whose life embodies humility, compassion, and selfless service. 

According to the Forum, Mrs. Shonekan has distinguished herself as a nurturing figure and an exemplary leader, whose unwavering commitment to the growth of humanity and the advancement of public service remains truly inspiring.

“Chief (Mrs) Margaret Shonekan was born on October 28, 1941. She is 84 years old today. She hails from Arowona Compound, Oke Eletu, Oyo Alaafin. After graduating from the University of Ibadan, she joined the West African Examination Council (WAEC) where she rose to the post of National Head of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) on 30 October, 1995.  She also served as a Commissioner, Federal Civil Service Commission representing Oyo and Osun States between 1 October 1986- March 31 1994. Many of those she recruited are now Federal Permanent Secretaries, Ambassadors, Director-General, Executive Secretaries etc.

“The commitment, candour and stamp of excellence she brought to bear in her service to the Federation is worthy of emulation, be it as Federal Commissioner in Federal Civil Service Commission, as Head of Nigerian Office, West African Examination Council and as First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria. She discharged her duties creditably well to the administration of all and sundry.  

“Her altruistic disposition and remarkable sense of duty have left indelible footprints in the sands of time, creating a path of excellence that continues to inspire many, particularly among indigenes of Oyo serving in the Public Service of the Federation.

“As she marks another milestone, it is our sincere prayer that Almighty God will continue to bless, protect, and guide her as well as her generations yet unborn in all spheres of life,” the statement read.
