Former Lawmaker Appointed Director At US-Based Intelligence-Security Forum

ABUJA – The Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum (PI-SF) has appointed a former member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada as its Director for African Parliamentarians Engagement and a Member of the Steering Committee, according to a statement issued by the Forum’s Chairman, Congressman Robert Pittenger, recently.

Sharada, who previously represented Kano Municipal Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, has been an advocate for national security and governance reforms. His role in the PI-SF will involve strengthening collaboration between African parliamentarians and global security stakeholders to tackle emerging security threats.

Sharada, is a prominent Nigerian lawmaker, previously served as the President General of the Network of African Parliamentarians for Defense and Security Committees and now holds the position of Honorary President of the Network.

Announcing the appointment, Pittenger lauds Sharada’s contributions to global security, governance, and international cooperation, describing him as an ideal candidate for the role.

The Washington-based PI-SF is a leading platform that fosters collaboration among global lawmakers on intelligence and security matters.

As Director, Hon. Sharada, former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence in Nigeria’s 9th Assembly, will focus on strengthening African legislative engagement in security and governance through key strategic priorities.

His role will involve deepening collaboration with African legislative leaders to tackle critical security and governance challenges. He will work to expand parliamentary participation by encouraging greater involvement of African legislators, security officials, and policymakers in PI-SF forums and initiatives.

Hon. Sharada will also foster regional cooperation by promoting dialogue among African parliamentary bodies to enhance cross-border collaboration on intelligence, cybersecurity, and financial security. He will play a key role in shaping forum agendas by identifying pressing security concerns across Africa and recommending high-profile speakers to address them.

Additionally, he will explore opportunities to expand PI-SF’s presence in Africa, assessing the feasibility of hosting forums on the continent and forging strategic partnerships to deepen African engagement. His expertise and leadership will be instrumental in amplifying Africa’s voice in global security discussions and strengthening interparliamentary cooperation.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum, Congressman Robert Pittenger, also commended participants for their active engagement, emphasizing their valuable contributions to the forum’s success.
