Former CDS, General Christopher Musa, get international Appointment



Immediate-past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has been appointed to the Board of Governors of the Midlothian Angel Network (Midlo Angels), a prominent U.S.-headquartered angel investment group focused on fostering cross-border opportunities between North America and Africa.

The announcement, made on November 11, 2025—just days after Musa’s retirement from active military service on October 30 highlights his transition from leading Nigeria’s Armed Forces to championing economic collaboration on the global stage. 

During his tenure as CDS, appointed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, Musa spearheaded strategic modernization, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and strengthened international security partnerships.

Tomie Balogun, Board Chair of Midlo Angels, described the appointment as a “major milestone” in the network’s mission to bridge investment gaps through “disciplined governance, visionary leadership, and global collaboration.” 

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with an office in Lagos, Nigeria, Midlo Angels, founded in 2021—invests in sectors like financial services, healthcare, information technology, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, particularly in Texas and African markets.In a statement, General Musa, a graduate of the Nigerian Defence Academy with advanced training from institutions including China’s National Defence University and the U.S. Army War College, expressed his honor at joining the board. 

“I am committed to impactful global collaboration,” he said, emphasizing his intent to leverage his expertise in ethical leadership and strategic vision.

Wale Salami, founder and executive director of Midlo Angels, called the appointment a “proud moment,” noting Musa’s “distinguished service to Nigeria” and his ability to add “immense depth to our governance and vision.” Salami added, “We are building a network of leaders who embody integrity, intellect, and impact Musa exemplifies that standard.”

The move comes amid growing interest in U.S.-Africa economic ties, with Midlo Angels having made 14 investments to date.
