Ford Motor Co. is recalling almost 500,000 vehicles in the United States after regulators identified a potential brake fluid leak that could increase the risk of accidents, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Thursday.
According to the agency, a ruptured hose in the brake system may cause fluid leakage, leading to longer stopping distances and raising the likelihood of a crash.
Ford stressed that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries connected to the issue.
The recall covers Ford Edge SUVs from model years 2015 to 2018 and Lincoln MKX vehicles from 2016 to 2018. NHTSA estimates that about 1% of the recalled vehicles may have the defect.
In addition, Ford announced two separate recalls:
213,000 vehicles due to faulty tail lights, and 100,900 vehicles over a risk that the airbag could tear when deployed.
The automaker said it would notify affected owners and replace the defective parts free of charge.
