Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, Ondo State, was abducted by gunmen from his residence in the Upenme area of Owo Local Government Area around 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
The incident has sparked alarm among colleagues and residents, with the National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) threatening protests if the situation is not resolved swiftly.
A senior NUAHP official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the kidnapping has been reported to security agencies.
In a message circulated among union members, the leader expressed dismay over the incident, stating, “We are deeply distressed by the kidnapping of our colleague, Pastor Akesinro, from his home in Upenme, Owo, at about 7 p.m. yesterday. As a union committed to our members’ welfare and security, we may declare a day of protest in Owo to demand his immediate and safe release.”
The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, assured the public that security forces are actively responding.
“Our operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies, are combing the forests to rescue the victim. We are fully committed to ensuring the safety of Ondo State residents and are engaging communities in policing efforts to restore security,” Lawal said.
The abduction has heightened concerns in Owo, a town still reeling from past security challenges. The NUAHP has called for urgent action, emphasizing the need to protect healthcare workers and residents alike.
