Communities across the nine local government areas (LGAs) of Adamawa Southern Senatorial District affected by recent flood disasters have received relief materials worth millions of Naira, courtesy of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe.
The relief materials, comprising both food and non-food items, were distributed during a ceremony held in Mayo-Belwa. The intervention included 945 bags of maize and rice, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, and other essential supplies.
According to officials, each of the nine LGAs received 55 bags of maize and 50 bags of rice, amounting to a total of 495 bags of maize and 450 bags of rice. These were supplemented with additional food items, personally funded by Senator Yaroe to complement NEMA’s donation.
Addressing representatives of the LGAs during the distribution exercise, Senator Yaroe stated that the initiative was aimed at assisting his constituents during a difficult time.
“One of the reasons why I decided to distribute these bags of grains is because NEMA brought some food and non-food items to be distributed to flood victims across five communities in Adamawa Southern Senatorial District,” the Senator explained.
“While flood victims benefitted from the materials provided by NEMA, I felt it was right to extend the gesture to other affected households, as virtually every community across the nine LGAs was impacted.”
Senator Yaroe emphasized that the 945 bags of grains were personally funded, reflecting his commitment to ensuring his constituents feel supported and included.
“I want my people to have a sense of belonging,” he said. “These grains are from my own pocket, and I will continue to do everything within my capacity to meet the needs of those I represent.”
Receiving 105 bags on behalf of Demsa LGA, Hon. Marilyn Danbabayi praised the Senator’s continued dedication, describing him as a politician who genuinely cares for his constituents. She noted that the distribution would prioritize the most vulnerable households, as per the Senator’s directive.
“We have put in place mechanisms to ensure transparency and fairness,” she added.
Similarly, Mallam Abubakar Usman, representative of Jada LGA, commended the Senator, highlighting that this marks the fifth time in 2025 alone that Senator Yaroe has provided direct support to his constituents through food and non-food distributions.
“We are ensuring that beneficiaries of previous distributions will not be included in this round so that more people, especially the vulnerable, can benefit,” Usman stated.
Speaking on behalf of NEMA, Abdulkadiri Mahmud from the agency’s Yola Operations Office, lauded Senator Yaroe’s unwavering support and love for his people.
“NEMA saw the need to respond to this natural disaster, but Senator Yaroe’s added contribution shows his determination to uplift the livelihoods and welfare of the people of Adamawa South,” Mahmud said.
Several beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation to both NEMA and Senator Yaroe for the timely intervention, which they said would greatly ease the burden of recovery following the floods.
This latest distribution effort stems from needs assessments conducted jointly by NEMA and the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), following reports submitted from affected communities. It forms part of the broader strategy to assist communities in recovering from the devastating effects of flooding in the region.
