The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the five bodies recovered along the Oreta riverbank in the Igbogbo community, Ikorodu Local Government Area, may be connected to cult-related violence.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this while addressing journalists, assuring residents that investigations were ongoing. He further appealed for calm within the host community and revealed that new security interventions were being deployed in Ikorodu and other flashpoints across Lagos State.
“That is why we are investigating. You know that we recovered the bodies and sent scene-of-crime experts to the place,” Jimoh said. “The team has briefed me, and we have given more directives on areas to touch. We will make the outcome of the investigation public.”

The discovery of the mutilated bodies of young men on Wednesday sent shockwaves through the Igbogbo community. Residents expressed fear over the gruesome killings and called for heightened vigilance and security presence in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, one of the deceased was found face down wearing a blue hoodie, while another victim dressed in a black-and-white shirt was seen lying motionless with visible bloodstains nearby.
Commissioner Jimoh explained that specialized anti-cultism units had already been established across all area commands in Lagos, in addition to a central squad at the state police headquarters. These units, he said, were dedicated to curbing cult clashes and violent activities.
“I have created anti-cultism groups in every area command. Parents and guardians must also be urged to advise and compel their children to stop cultism, as we are seeing attacks and counterattacks,” he added.
The police commissioner also revealed that Lagos has witnessed a sharp increase in cult-related cases in recent months, with more than 26 suspects arrested by the State Police Command as part of the ongoing crackdown.
