Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on well-wishers to forgo traditional birthday gifts and greetings in favor of donations to support the completion of the National Library project.
The announcement, made ahead of her upcoming birthday, shows her commitment to advancing education and preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Senator Tinubu emphasized the transformative potential of a fully functional National Library.
“The National Library is more than a building; it is a repository of our history, knowledge, and aspirations as a nation,” she said.
“I am appealing to all Nigerians, friends, and well-wishers to channel their generosity toward this noble cause. Let us build a legacy for future generations.”
The National Library project, which has been in development for years, aims to create a world-class facility housing millions of books, digital resources, and archival materials. However, funding challenges have delayed its completion.
The First Lady’s appeal is expected to galvanize public and private support to bridge the financial gap and expedite the project’s progress.
Senator Tinubu, known for her advocacy in education and women’s empowerment, expressed gratitude for the love and support she has received over the years.
“Your prayers and goodwill mean the world to me,” she said. “This year, I ask that we come together to invest in knowledge and opportunity for all Nigerians.”
Details on how to contribute to the National Library project will be shared through official government channels and the First Lady’s office.
The public is encouraged to participate in this initiative, which promises to enhance access to education and preserve Nigeria’s rich intellectual heritage.
