FIRS to Launch Nigeria Tax Reform Acts at on November 10



The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) will officially launch the Nigeria Tax Reform Acts on Monday, November 10, 2025, during a Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Session themed “Impact of the New Tax Laws”.

The landmark event represents a pivotal step in Nigeria’s fiscal reform agenda, designed to create a simpler, fairer, and more efficient tax system that drives compliance, attracts investment, and fuels sustainable economic growth.

The session will convene senior government officials, policymakers, tax experts, development partners, civil society leaders, and private-sector executives to examine the operational framework of the new Acts and explore their broader implications for national development.

Highlights include keynote and technical presentations by leading authorities in taxation and public finance:Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms 

Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, former FIRS Executive Chairman and CEO of Compliance Professionals, Matthew Gbonjubola, Coordinating Director at FIRS, Tayo Koleoso, 

Chief of Staff at FIRS -A high-level panel discussion will feature:Amina Ado and Kabir Abba, senior FIRS executives, Matthew Gbonjubola, Michael Ango, Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service, Olumide Esan, Partner at Deloitte 

 

Ahead of the launch, Dr. Lovette Ononuga, FIRS Director of Taxpayer Services, emphasized the session’s dual goals: “It aims to strengthen public understanding of the reforms and promote collaboration among stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the new laws.”

A core focus of the reforms is the elimination of multiple and overlapping taxes that have long burdened citizens and businesses. 

The new framework seeks to simplify compliance, remove ambiguities, and enhance transparency making tax obligations clearer and reducing unauthorized charges by local entities or agents.

“The reforms will ease frustrations in tax payments and eliminate unfair practices,” Ononuga stated. 

“We are ushering in a new era of tax administration, one that is efficient, transparent, and aligned with Nigeria’s long-term development vision”.

With effective implementation, the Nigeria Tax Reform Acts are poised to reshape public trust in taxation, strengthen government accountability, and support inclusive, sustainable economic prosperity.
