A memorial service for four senior staff members of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) who died in the inferno that gutted Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, on September 16, is currently underway.
Daily Trust reports that at least ten persons died in the fire incident at the high-rise building, which houses several corporate offices.
United Capital Plc, which occupies the third and fourth floors of the building, confirmed that six of its employees died in the incident.

FIRS also lost four of its staff members.
The deceased were: Mrs Ekelikhostse George (Assistant Director), Mr David Sunday-Jatto (Assistant Director), Mrs Nkem Onyemelukwe (Senior Manager), and Mr Peter Ifaranmaye (Manager).
They were said to have been trapped while carrying out official duties at one of the service’s offices located on the sixth and seventh floors of the high-rise building when the fire broke out.
A memorial service organised in honour of the departed federal government workers, is currently ongoing at Highpoint Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.
The solemn event attracted top officials of the revenue agency in Lagos as well as family members and friends of the deceased.

In an earlier statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS Chairman, Dare Adekanmbi, the agency described the development as a devastating loss that has thrown the entire service into mourning.
“The management and entire staff are in deep shock and sorrow over the development. They offer their condolences to the grieving families and are in touch with the families of our departed colleagues whose commitment to excellence, dedication and professionalism were never in doubt. We will provide all the necessary support at this trying time,” the statement read.
