Fire Outbreak At A1 Petroleum Filling Station In Ikorodu Quickly Contained By Lagos Fire Service


A major fire incident was swiftly contained on Friday at A1 Petroleum Filling Station, located at 15 Mukaz Avenue off Ikorodu Road, by Agric Bus Stop in Owutu–Ikorodu, Lagos.

The quick response of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service prevented what could have been a devastating disaster.

The Deputy Controller General of the Lagos Fire Service, Mr. Olajide Ogabi, confirmed that an emergency call was received at exactly 12:58 p.m. The distress call reported that a 45,000-litre petroleum tanker, with registration number IKD 479 XV, had caught fire while discharging fuel at the filling station.

According to Ogabi, firefighters arrived promptly and successfully brought the situation under control. He explained that the blaze was confined to the tanker and one dispensing pump out of six available at the facility. “No lives were lost, and no injuries were recorded,” he stated.

Further reports confirmed that the main filling station building, the convenience mart, underground storage tanks, and the gas skid were all preserved without damage, thanks to the swift intervention of fire crews.

The operation was a joint effort between the Ikorodu and Alausa Fire Stations, with personnel working tirelessly until the fire was completely extinguished.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has urged stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to adhere strictly to safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences. The agency also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives, properties, and the environment across Lagos State.
