The blaze destroyed goods and materials worth millions of naira, though no lives were lost.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but unverified reports suggest it may have been triggered by an electrical fault—possibly from fallen cables that came into contact with roofing sheets in the market.

Traders and residents reportedly tried to contain the flames, but the fire spread quickly due to the highly combustible nature of the wood and other building materials stored in the area.

Sources said some nearby residential buildings were also affected, forcing occupants to flee for safety.

Officials of the Federal Fire Service later arrived at the scene and succeeded in bringing the blaze under control.

Affected traders and residents have appealed to the government for assistance, saying they lost their only means of livelihood.
