A devastating fire outbreak has destroyed properties worth millions of naira at Ogundipe Market, Agodi Gate, in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving 14 out of 42 shops in the complex completely razed.

According to the GUARDIAN, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement. He noted that although no lives were lost, traders recorded heavy losses as goods and other valuables were destroyed.

According to Akinwande, the emergency was reported at about 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, by a trader identified as Mr. Sulaiman. Fire personnel led by CFS Olayiwola T.K. were immediately mobilised to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found 14 shops out of 42 well alight. We swiftly swung into action, curtailed the fire, and prevented it from spreading to other nearby shops in the market,” he explained.

He added that the operation was carried out successfully, with no casualties recorded. “Properties worth billions of naira were saved by the officers of the fire service. A post-fire incident investigation is in progress to ascertain the root cause of the outbreak,” Akinwande stated.

The fire agency boss, therefore, appealed to traders across the state to prioritise fire safety measures. He urged them to equip their shops with fire extinguishers and remain conscious of fire hazards to prevent future occurrences.
