Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, joined his colleagues from Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe States for the 12th meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) held in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The meeting, chaired by Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, deliberated on pressing issues affecting the subregion and reaffirmed the commitment of the six governors to work collectively in addressing challenges confronting the North-East.

In a communique issued at the end of the session, the Forum commended ongoing gains in the fight against insurgency but expressed concern over lingering humanitarian and infrastructural deficits in the region.

The governors also noted forecasts by credible agencies on looming flood disasters across the North-East. They called for proactive measures, including sensitization of settlers along flood plains, as well as urgent intervention by the Federal Government and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to rebuild damaged infrastructure, particularly bridges.

On agriculture, the Forum raised alarm over the rising cost of farm inputs, warning that the situation could negatively affect next year’s harvest. To avert a possible food crisis, it urged government support in the form of subsidies to farmers and intensified preparations for dry season farming.

The governors further resolved to hold the North-East Trade Fair in partnership with the North East Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NECCIMA) in Maiduguri, Borno State, in December 2025.

On energy, the Forum reiterated its earlier position on solar power as a viable alternative for addressing energy poverty. It therefore tasked the Committee on Power and Energy to produce an integrated subregional power masterplan.

The Forum also congratulated the University of Maiduguri on its golden jubilee and pledged support for the anniversary celebrations and the re-launch of the University’s Endowment Fund scheduled for November 2025.
