As Nigeria’s largest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gears up for its all-important 2025 Elective National Convention, the choice of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State as Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) is no coincidence. It is a clear statement of confidence in his capacity, political experience, and tested knowledge of party management.
At its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the PDP approved the schedule of activities and timetable for the Elective National Convention. The NEC also ratified the composition of the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee to ensure that the exercise is successful, transparent, and credible.
The NCOC was formally inaugurated on September 2, 2025. The 119-member committee is chaired by Governor Fintiri, with Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State serving as Vice Chairman and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State as Secretary. Together, they carry the mandate of delivering a seamless convention that will re-energize and reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Elective National Convention is scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. Preparations are already in full swing, with the committee designating the Legacy House in Maitama, Abuja, as its secretariat. Under Fintiri’s supervision, the Legacy House has been beautifully renovated and given a refreshing new look, symbolizing the renewal the PDP itself seeks.
The choice of Ibadan, a city rich in political history, underscores the significance of the convention as a turning point for the PDP. It is not just about electing party officials, it is about charting a new course for Nigeria’s largest opposition party as it seeks to reclaim power in 2027.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s reputation as a stabilizer, reconciler, and pragmatic leader stands him out for this delicate national assignment. He has previously demonstrated his ability to manage complex political processes, and his performance as Chairman of past conventions has earned him accolades across party lines.
Fintiri is a performer with a strong track record of delivering results under pressure. His political maturity, deep understanding of party dynamics, and ability to forge consensus make him the ideal helmsman for a convention that must unite, reform, and reposition the PDP.
One of the strongest indicators of success for the Ibadan 2025 Convention is the unity among party organs. The National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC), PDP Governors’ Forum, and all state chapters are working in harmony toward the same goal. This synergy reflects a shared commitment to rebuilding the party as a truly organic institution rooted in the people.
Already, reconciliation and formation of new executives efforts are ongoing across wards, local governments, and states. Party congresses are being conducted smoothly, laying the groundwork for a successful national gathering in November.
The 2025 Elective National Convention is more than a routine internal exercise. It is the launchpad for the PDP’s return to power in 2027. With the right leadership, a renewed vision, and a re-energized membership base, the PDP seeks to reclaim its historic place as the biggest party in Nigeria.
Governor Fintiri, ably supported by his colleagues and other party leaders, is well positioned to deliver a convention that will not only be accepted by all but also set the PDP on a new path of reform, re-engineering, and remodeling.
The journey to Ibadan 2025 looks smooth, deliberate, and purposeful. Governor Fintiri has done it before, and with the mandate entrusted to him once again, he is set to deliver a fine, wonderful, and history-shaping convention on November 15–16, 2025. For the PDP, this is not just another convention, it is the beginning of a new chapter.
